Semi monthly” means every two weeks, or 24 times a year. “Bi weekly” means two times a month, or 26 times a year. Although similar, they schedule differently. Bi-weekly pay dates move slightly each month, whereas semi-monthly pay dates are fixed (e.g. the 15th and 30th). Depending on how employers manage payroll, it can impact budgeting and the paycheck amounts. While it may be easier to track hours hourly if you are an hourly worker, it is almost consistent for employees who are on salary.
